Lastprophet.Info / The Person / H. Kamil Yılmaz, PhD

Was Muhammad Illiterate?
Lastprophet.Info / The Person / Muhammed Raşid, PhD

Muhammad was born in the full light of day and the biography of no other prophet is based upon so much historical evidence as that of the Prophet of Islam. We can not, therefore, establish whether the Prophet was literate or illiterate without the support of history. There has been no dearth of scholars, even in the West, who have reached the conclusion that the Prophet did not know how to read and write.

God's Messenger kissed Al-Hasan bin Ali (his grandchild) while Al-Aqra' bin Habis At-Tamim was sitting beside him. Al-Aqra said, "I have ten children and I have never kissed anyone of them", God's Messenger cast a look at him and said, "Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully."
