Prayers of the Prophets in the Qur'an

Prayers of the Prophets

A Lastprophet.info compilation of the Qur’anic verses presenting the personal supplications of the Prophets. Prayers include those of Prophets Solomon, Jonah, Adam, Abraham, Ishmael, Zachariah and Muhammad, upon them all be peace.

The following are the prayers in the original Qur'anic text as well as in their English translations:

 

1 / The Distinction, 25:74

"Our Lord! Grant us that our spouses and offspring may be a means of happiness for us, and enable us to lead others in piety (to become a means of the promotion of piety and virtue)." 

 


 

2 / The Believers, 23:109

‘Our Lord! We have believed, so forgive us, and have mercy on us, for You are the Best of the merciful.' 

 


 

3 / The Ant, 27:19

"My Lord! Inspire and guide me so that I may thank You for Your favor which You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and so that I may act righteously in a manner that will please You; and include me (out of Your mercy) among Your righteous servants." 

 


 

4 / Jonah, 10:10

"All-Glorified You are, O God! (You are absolutely exalted above having any defects and doing anything wrong.)" All praise and gratitude are for God, the Lord of the worlds!" 

 


 

5 / The Family of Imran, 3:26

“O God, absolute Master of all dominion! You give dominion to whom You will, and take away dominion from whom You will, and You exalt and honor whom You will, and abase whom You will; in Your hand is all good; surely You have full power over everything.” 

 


 

6 / The Cow, 2:201

"Our Lord, grant us in the world what is good, and in the Hereafter what is good, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire." 

 


 

7 / The Family of Imran, 3:8-9

"Our Lord, do not let our hearts swerve after You have guided us, and bestow upon us mercy from Your Presence. Surely You are the All-Bestowing.  Our Lord, You it is Who will gather humankind for a Day about (the coming of) which there is no doubt. Surely God does not fail to keep the promise." 

 


 

8 / The Sandhills, 46:15

"My Lord! Inspire me that I may be thankful for all Your favors that You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do good, righteous deeds with which You will be pleased; and grant me righteous offspring. I have turned to You, and I am one of those who have submitted to You." 

 


 

9 / The Elevated Places, 7:23

"Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and do not have mercy on us, we will surely be among those who have lost!" 

 


 

10 / The Originator, 35:1-2

“All praise and thanks are for God, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, Who appoints the angels as messengers having wings, two, or three, or four (or more). He increases in creation what He wills. Surely God has full power over everything. Whatever God opens up for human beings out of His Mercy, none is able to withhold; and whatever He withholds, none is able to release. He is the All-Glorious with irresistible might, the All-Wise.” 

 


 

11 / The Elevated Places, 7:47

"Our Lord! Do not include us among the people of the wrongdoing!" 

 


 

12 / The Cow, 2:32

"All-Glorified You are (in that You are absolutely above having any defect and doing anything meaningless, and Yours are all the attributes of perfection). We have no knowledge save what You have taught us. Surely You are the All-Knowing, the All-Wise." 

 


 

13 / The Cow, 2:128

“Our Lord! Make us Muslims, submissive to You, and of our offspring, a community Muslim, submissive to You. Show us our rites of worship, and accept our repentance (for our inability to worship You as worshipping You requires). Surely You are the One Who accepts repentance and returns it with liberal forgiveness and additional reward, the All-Compassionate.” 

 


 

14 / The Examined One, 60: 4-5

"O Our Lord! It is in You that We have put our trust, and it is to You that we turn in utmost sincerity and devotion; and to You is the homecoming. O Our Lord! Do not make us prey for those who disbelieve. And forgive us, our. You are the All-Glorious with irresistible might, the All-Wise." 

 


 

15 / The Prohibition, 66:8

"Our Lord! Perfect our light, and forgive us. Surely You have full power over everything!" 

 


 

16 / The Banishment, 59:10

“O our Lord! Forgive us and our brothers (and sisters) in Religion who have preceded us in faith, and let not our hearts entertain any ill-feeling against any of the believers. O our Lord! You are All-Forgiving, All-Compassionate.” 

 


 

17 / Ta Ha, 20:114

"My Lord, increase me in knowledge." 

 


 

18 / The Prophets, 21:89

"My Lord! Do not let me leave the world without an heir, for You are the Best of the inheritors." 

 


 

19 / The Believer, 40:7-9

"Our Lord! You embrace all things with mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who and follow Your way, and protect them from the punishment of the Blazing Flame. Our Lord! Admit them into the Gardens of perpetual bliss which You have promised them, and those who are righteous from among their forebears, and their spouses, and their offspring. Surely You are the All-Glorious with irresistible might, the All-Wise. And protect them from (doing) evil deeds. Whoever You protect from evils on that Day, You have surely had mercy on him; and that is the supreme triumph." 

عن أبي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه قَالَ:
قَبَّلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم الْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ وَعِنْدَهُ الأَقْرَعُ بْنُ حَابِسٍ التَّمِيمِيُّ جَالِسًا‏.‏ فَقَالَ الأَقْرَعُ إِنَّ لِي عَشَرَةً مِنَ الْوَلَدِ مَا قَبَّلْتُ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدًا‏.‏ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏"‏ مَنْ لاَ يَرْحَمُ لاَ يُرْحَمُ ‏"‏‏
God's Messenger kissed Al-Hasan bin Ali (his grandchild) while Al-Aqra' bin Habis At-Tamim was sitting beside him. Al-Aqra said, "I have ten children and I have never kissed anyone of them", God's Messenger cast a look at him and said, "Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully." (Bukhari, Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab), 18)
