After Ramadan
Lastprophet.Info / The Prophet Muhammad (Saw) / Fatma Bayram

Sometimes we want to stop time and live some moments forever, but time, luckily, doesn’t listen. It passes as it always does. Time flows in the same speed for everyone everywhere, but depending on the situation we find ourselves in, one day may seem like an entire century, or like the blinking of an eye.

Fasting as Told by Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır
Lastprophet.Info / The Prophet Muhammad (Saw) / Fatma Bayram

Today I would like to cite a few quotations about fasting from Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır, a famous Turkish Quran commentator known for including subtle philosophical and psychological analyses in his tafseer. He firstly points out that the struggle against the lower self is possible only through fasting and states that no other means are as effective as fasting in calming the ambition that the human being has towards evil and shamelessness.

Fasting as a Celebration
Lastprophet.Info / The Prophet Muhammad (Saw) / Fatma Bayram

We know the importance of fasting as an act of worship because it’s a command from Allah (s.w.t), and it’s one of the five pillars of Islam according to the Hadith Jibreel, which is a sound narration from the Prophet (s.a.w). We are also aware of its value in the eyes of God…

The Purpose of Fasting: Accustoming to Self to God-consciousness
Lastprophet.Info / The Prophet Muhammad (Saw) / Fatma Bayram

Verse 183 in Surah Baqara prescribes fasting for all believers, and at the end of this verse Allah (s.w.t) explains the wisdom behind this command. In the words of Quran commentator Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır: “Fasting has been prescribed on us as it has been prescribed on those before us, so that we may shield ourselves from all sorts of danger and reach the rank of God-consciousness by attaining the faculty of mastering our lower selves and our desires.”

How Can Muslims Respond to the Paris Attacks?
Lastprophet.Info / The Prophet Muhammad (Saw) / Ahmad Gianpiero Vincenzo

It seems to bring back to life the hours after September 11th. Now in Paris twelve journalists are dead at the hands of two murderers shouting "Allahu Akbar." How it is possible to shout something like this while killing people is a mystery. Maybe they do it just for this reason: to stain the name of Islam.

Forgiveness and Justice: Meditation on Some Hadith

The Prophet said, "Al-wasil [a considerate, inseperable friend] is not the one who recompenses the good done to him by his relatives, but al-wasil is the one who keeps good relations with those relatives who had severed the bond of kinship with him." (Bukhari, Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab), 15)
